InterLibrary Loans - Obtaining materials from other libraries

The libraries offer Interlibrary Loan Services to UT's students, faculty and staff to obtain books, articles, and other material not available through the Library's on-campus collections.

Requesting Items available through OhioLINK

Items such as books may be more quickly available through OhioLINK borrowing than through the Interlibrary Loan services.  Please check the OhioLINK Library Catalog first before requesting a book through Interlibrary Loan.  Articles in magazines and journals are not available for request through OhioLINK, but you should check the Online Journals Portal to see if we have access to them online.

Requesting Items not available through OhioLINK

If you need a book, microfilm, audiovisual item, or other item that is not available on OhioLINK or an article from a journal that we do not get at the University of Toledo, you may request that item through our Interlibrary Loan Department. However, you need to plan ahead for your requests as an Interlibrary loan request could take two weeks or more to get here.  The interlibrary loan services are not available to Courtesy Card patrons
Before requesting an item, first please verify your reference. Be sure your citation to the material is accurate and as complete as possible. If you need help verifying a reference, decoding an abbreviation, or finding additional or substitute sources, feel free to ask a librarian at the Reference Desk ((419) 530-2325) or send an e-mail to the Reference Department.
Then, use one of our online Interlibrary Loan Forms.
  • LOAN requests for Books, Theses and Dissertations, microfilm, A/V Material, or other items that would need to be returned to the lending institution. Be sure you know where the item was published, the publisher name and the date of publication. The form cannot be submitted if it is lacking a TITLE.  (Note: Health Science Campus patrons can use this form instead.)
  • PHOTOCOPY (article) requests for journal articles, book chapters, papers in proceedings, and other items that would typically arrive in photocopy form and would NOT need to be returned to a lending institution. Be sure that you know the JOURNAL TITLE (please do not use abbreviations or guess at what you think the title might be), the volume and page numbers, the publication date, the author's name, and the complete article title if known. Since many citations do not include the article title, you do not need that field to submit a request. However, the title is very helpful in verifying information if other parts of the citation are inaccurate.  If you do not know the title, please type "No Title Given" in that space on the form.

We send out notices that your material is ready to be picked up by e-mail only, to your default university e-mail account.  You may also track the status of your loan request in your library record to determine when the requested item has arrived.

All loaned materials and photocopies can be picked up at the Circulation Desk when they arrive.  Photocopies can be sent to an on-campus departmental mail stop if it is indicated on the request form.

If required, please return the borrowed materials to the Circulation Desk. Any fines or fees assessed by the lending library because of damage to the item or a late return are the responsibility of the patron.  Overdue Interlibrary Loan materials are fined at a rate of $0.50 per day per item.

Requesting Items from the Northwest Ohio Regional Book Depository

Items listed in the UT Library Catalog as being available from the NW Ohio Book Depository can be requested online. Use the Depository Request button to request entire books and other items.  Main campus patrons can use the depository article request form for individual articles from journals in the depository, but Health Science Campus, Pharmacy, and Nursing patrons should use this form instead.  More information about the Depository can be found on the collection web page.
