For books and other items that circulate, faculty members can borrow most items for 16 weeks with one renewal period of an additional 16 weeks. Books requested through OhioLINK can be borrowed for 3 weeks intially with up to four 3 week renewals (if a hold is not placed from the original campus). Multimedia & Reserve items can be borrowed for shorter periods, and several collections do not circulate at all. For your protection, you are required to bring your ID card to the Library when checking out or picking up items. For new or visiting faculty & staff, your library record will be activated after you receive your first paycheck. If you need to access library services prior to your first paycheck, please ask your department chair to draft a letter that you can bring to the Circulation Desk at Carlson Library stating if you are full or part-time faculty, and, if you are not tenure or tenure-track, the length of your appointment. We will create a temporary record for you.
Faculty members can identify a proxy borrower who can check out items for them at the library. Your proxy will need to present both your ID and his or her ID to verify that he or she they can take out books under your name. This is done as a security precaution. To designate a proxy borrower, print out and complete this form and bring it to the circulation desk or send it to Mary Jane Horn ((419) 530-4487) at the Circulation Department (Mailstop #509).

The Library encourages the faculty to make recommendations for titles the library may consider purchasing. Our Library Liaison program assigns a departmental representative and library faculty member to every academic department and many programs on campus. The representative and librarian coordinate purchase requests from the departments and address other issues related to the library. Click her for the Library Liaison list. The University Libraries offers paper reserve reading services at the Carlson Library and Scott Park LRC as well as electronic reserves via the UT Library Catalog. Using electronic reserves, students can gain access to full-text articles, multimedia, and other documents that are placed on reserve. The University Libraries offer library and information literacy skills programs for classes at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. The faculty of the University Libraries can provide instruction for classes on a wide variety of library-related topics. They teach everything, including basic instruction on library catalogs, research databases, and printed resources, as well as the skills necessary to find and evaluate information on the World Wide Web. The faculty have a variety of subject backgrounds and will customize instruction for your specific course.In addition, the librarians have prepared a number of general and subject guides to assist you and your students in finding resources that you need. The guides include information on finding materials, citation styles, general guides, and pathfinders that provide overviews of the research resources for a particular subject or course. The Academic Support unit of the University Libraries offers a wide range of services and products to support instruction at the University of Toledo. The unit is responsible for classroom audio-visual equipment across campus, instructional graphics, web design, poster sessions, power point presentations, slides, lamination, photography and photo finishing. The Academic Support website will allow you to schedule your classroom or graphical needs, as well as provide tutorials on equipment and mediated classrooms. The main offices for the Academic Support unit are in the lower level of Carlson Library. The unit staff are happy to work with you on an individual basis to show you how the equipment works in the classrooms where you will be teaching.

Each year the Ward M. Canaday Center sponsors the University Authors & Artists Exhibit, where faculty can display publications and works produced during the previous year. Information on the exhibit will be mailed to all faculty to inform them as to when and where they should submit their publications for the exhibit. The 2006/2007 Submission form is availalbe in .doc format.
